Frequently Asked Questions
Being a mutual means we are owned by our members rather than shareholders. As a not-for-profit organisation, any profits we make are reinvested for the benefit of our members. This can include lower fees, improving returns, and maintaining a high standard of customer service.
Unity Mutual is authorised by the Prudential Regulation Authority and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority and Prudential Regulation Authority, so we're held to the same standards as other UK banks and insurers.
You are also covered by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS). Most of our products include a level of life assurance, making them eligible for 100% FSCS protection. For more information, you can explore our FSCS page, or, for the full details, check the terms and conditions of the specific product.
We have a range of products designed to help people reach their financial goals.
For adults: Lifetime ISA, Stocks and Shares Flexible ISA, 2, 3 and 5-Year Guaranteed Investment Bonds, and a Tax-Exempt Savings Plan.
For children: Junior ISA, Child's Tax-Exempt Savings Plan, and the Child Trust Fund (closed to new customers).
We understand that everyone is at a different stage of their savings journey, which is why many of our products are designed to be accessible.
We don't believe that starting to save should require a large lump sum, so many of our products have low minimum investment amounts.
| Product | Minimum starting amount |
| Tax-Exempt Savings Plan and Child's Tax-Exempt Savings Plan | £9 per month |
| Junior ISA, Stocks and Shares Flexible ISA, and Lifetime ISA | £10 Direct Debit per month or a £25 lump sum |
| 2, 3, and 5-Year Guaranteed Investment Bond | £5,000 |
Whether you've got a lump sum to invest or a few pounds a month to spare, there's likely a product that fits.
For our stock market-based products, such as the Stocks and Shares Flexible ISA, Junior ISA, and Child Trust Fund, the value of your investment can go down as well as up, so you may get back less than you invest. You can track the performance of the underlying funds on our fund value page.
Our Lifetime ISA and our Guaranteed Investment Bonds offer either a fixed interest rate or guaranteed return. Check the individual product pages for full details on their returns.
No, we don't charge transaction or admin fees. As a mutual, we have no shareholders to pay, so instead of taking a cut of each transaction, we put our profits back into ensuring lower fees, and better returns for our members.
Yes, you can transfer your existing savings and investments to us and benefit from being part of a mutual. Visit our Transfer to Us page for more information on the official transfer process for each product.
