Global Accessibility Awareness Day
The Small Changes Making a Big Difference
Global Accessibility Awareness Day (GAAD) is an opportunity to reflect on how inclusive and accessible digital experiences really are.
At Unity Mutual, accessibility plays an important role in how we support our customers. Whether someone is exploring savings options, checking the value of a policy, or planning for their family’s future, accessing information online should feel simple and straightforward.
Financial decisions can already feel complex. Digital barriers should never make it harder for people to access the information and support they need.
Accessibility is a journey
Improving accessibility isn’t something that happens overnight. It’s an ongoing process of making practical improvements that remove barriers and create a better experience for everyone.
For us, that means making information easier to understand, improving website usability, and giving people more control over how they interact with our digital experience.
Because when people are making decisions about savings, investments, and financial security, confidence and clarity matter.
Turning accessibility into action
As part of this commitment, we introduced the Recite Me Assistive Toolbar, allowing visitors to personalise the website in ways that work best for their individual needs.
Over the past year, the Toolbar has been used more than 600 times, with users viewing over 1,100 pages using its accessibility features.
These tools have helped users access information in ways that work better for them.
Here’s how visitors are using the toolbar:
- Text-to-speech has been used over 250 times, helping users listen to content instead of reading it
- Most usage comes from mobile devices (over 300), showing how important accessibility is on the go
- Visitors have used these features from 20 countries, reflecting the reach of our services
These insights show that accessibility features are making a real difference for people accessing important information and services online.
Small changes, meaningful impact
Accessibility can sometimes feel like a large task, but meaningful progress often starts with small, practical improvements.
This year, we’re supporting Recite Me’s Global Accessibility Awareness Day campaign, which shares a simple message:
You can’t do nothing.
You can’t do everything.
But you can take action.
For us, taking action means continuing to improve our digital experience, helping more people access the information and support they need with confidence.
Continuing to improve
We’re proud of the progress we’ve made so far and remain committed to building on it.
Accessibility is an ongoing responsibility, and we’ll continue making improvements that help create a more inclusive experience for every customer and member.
Because when it comes to accessibility, small changes really do make a difference.
